Fleece covers are one of the only successfully implemented methods of preserving snow and glaciers by protecting the underlying snow from melting.<\/p>\n
Solar radiation is reflected by the white material, and on average 50-60% of the snow underneath can be preserved. Fleece covers are already being used in various ski resorts. They have been used successfully on the Diavolezza glacier in the Upper Engadine in Switzerland for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n
Work has been underway for years to make the fleece covers more sustainable. Such covers are now in use on the Diavolezza glacier and their effectiveness is being compared with the older covers using drones. What makes the new covers more sustainable?
