Cover Project Foundation

The Cover Project Foundation works with scientists and universities to preserve glaciers as freshwater reservoirs around the world. The projects funded are designed to support people who are highly dependent on the glaciers' supply of meltwater and to protect the environment. At least 200 million people worldwide will face water shortages if their glaciers disappear.

Glacier covers

Glacier covers are proven ways to slow the melting of glaciers. For example, after being covered with a Fleece for 10 years, instead of shrinking, the Diavolezza glacier has become about 10 meters thicker.

The Lischana Glacier

Die Lischana Hütte, die seit 92 Jahren dort steht, wird ihre Wasserversorgung verlieren da es sein gesamtes Trinkwasser aus dem Lischana Gletscher bezieht.

To preserve the glacier patch in Val Lischana, fleece covers can be implemented. A first trial with fleece covers was carried out here during the summer of 2019 and showed positive results.
